Pre Surgery Care
In preparation for your surgery we conduct lymphatic drainage. This is a specialist massage that stimulates the lymph vessels in the lymphatic system to naturally detox the body, flushing out toxins to help maintain healthy blood circulation and immune function, which are essential during surgery and recovery. For optimum results we recommend 2-3 treatments before your procedure.
Whether your surgery is in the UK or you are considering surgery abroad, our pre op consultation will enhance your understanding of how to wear your garments properly and the importance of the aftercare. It will assist in reducing the occurrence of fibrosis and therefore compromised aesthetic results.
Our massage techniques will compliment your cosmetic surgical procedure and is to be viewed as part of your overall treatment.
Remember it's vitally important to book your lymphatic drainage massages/after care for 2-3 days post op in advance. Book it when you book your surgery to avoid delays in your treatment and avoid disappointment with your finished result. The aftercare massages are vital to aid with the desired result, the liposuction/tummy tuck surgery is only a component of the journey and not the end. You will need around 10 treatments of drainage and massage to achieve smooth results with a decreased chance of fibrosis and scarring, together with correctly fitting compression garments. You have paid a lot of money for your surgery – don’t let the results be affected by not booking your aftercare in advance too.
Post Cosmetic Surgery Care
Following cosmetic surgery, a patient can naturally experience swelling and bruising that can last for weeks. When the lymphatic system is compromised fluid build-up, reduced healing and scar tissue can be experienced. In cases of liposuction, seroma and hard lumps of tissue called fibrosis can form, leaving an uneven appearance and a poor cosmetic result. Lymphatic massage is recommended by surgeons to reduce post operative swelling and bruising. It helps to accelerate the healing process and enhance the results by tightening the skin and helping the body conform to its new shape.
Lymphatic massage and compression after surgery, particularly in that early period, is essential to help produce the aesthetic desired results and not lead to hard lumps and fibrosis. Fibrosis occurs as a result of prolonged swelling. If we address the swelling, then we help to reduce the amount of fluid that’s sitting in the tissue space, which in turn is triggering that unwanted secondary inflammatory reaction. If left untreated it can lead to the formation of fibrosis and scar tissue. Bringing oxygen and nutrient rich blood to an area the body can heal more efficiently.
Treatments for MLD should commence as soon as possible after the surgery to help reduce the swelling and therefore increase the desired outcome. There should be a minimum of 2 treatments per week post -op, until the swelling is under control and no fibrosis is occurring.
We would initially recommend 10 treatments post-surgery after liposuction, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), or FDL. Ongoing consultation will determine your treatment plan, depending on the aftercare and individual progress.
Benefits of post operative lymphatic massage include:
- Reduces swelling and bruising.
- Increases the circulation and promotes healing.
- Reduces likelihood of fibrosis and formation of hard lumps.
- Stimulates the immune system to help prevent the chance of infections.
- Reduces the appearance of the scar and scar tissue formation.
- Enhances the sculptured aesthetic appearance of the cosmetic surgery.
Correct advice and information will help you to be prepared before the surgery and so prevent these unwanted after-effects from occurring.
As well as offering lymphatic massage, we also offer advice on garment and compression wear, taping, general health and well-being and posture care to enhance your desired results. We also use ultrasound cavitation and RF (radiofrequency) to help with extra fat reduction, unevenness post op, collagen production and skin tightening. Ultrasound cavitation is a non invasive contouring treatment that delivers low energy ultrasound waves to help destroy fat in targeted areas. The destroyed fat cells are then eliminated from the body via the lymphatic system. Cavitation and RF treatments have no downtime, are not painful and with few to no side effects. These treatments are not suitable until 8 weeks post op and would generally be used if you have any lumpiness or uneven fat deposits post surgery as well as a stand alone treatment on their own.
